Almost

I lingered somewhere between holding on to what-ifs and learning how to move on.

It felt familiar, but the place itself was vast, unknown.

Almost like I didn’t belong to it yet. And then I saw you.

I knew before I let myself know.

When it finally reached you, it showed something in your expression startled, almost like being caught.

I felt it too, sudden and inescapable. So I looked away.

Wishing, hoping, quietly praying to some higher power to free me of the moment before it could mean anything more.

And in that instant, it was like the skies could hear me.
